What is a Doula?

A person (often a womyn) that will serve at full capacity for another womyn.  A doula is a trained and experienced professional that specializes in providing education, encouragement, support, and nurturing, non-medical care while guiding families through the transitions of pregnancy, labor, birth or welcoming a new baby.

What is unique about my practice?

  • Recognizes birth as a key experience a mother will remember all her life

  • Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of someone in labor

  • Assists families in preparing for and carrying out their plans for birth

  • Stays with the parents throughout the labor

  • Provides emotional support, physical comfort, and an objective viewpoint while helping the family get the knowledge they need to make informed decisions

  • Facilitates communication between the laboring person,  partners, and clinical care providers

  • Perceives her role as nurturing and protecting the parents memories of the birth experience

  • Allows the laboring person’s partner to participate at his/her comfort level

What is a Birth Doula?

Evidence-based research shows that postpartum doula services ease the transitions that come with the addition of a baby to a family, improve parental satisfaction, and reduce the risk of mood disorders.

  • Offers education, companionship, and nonjudgmental support during the postpartum fourth trimester

  • Assists with newborn care, family adjustment, meal preparation, and light household tidying

  • Offers evidence-based information on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, infant soothing and coping skills for new parents, and makes appropriate referrals when necessary

The Benefits of Having a Doula

Interested in making a difference?

Interested in making a difference in the life of a family that can’t afford doula services? Often times teen parents, single mothers, and less privileged people are left with little to no support during this most vulnerable time in life. I hope to never have to deny a woman of these services due to lack of funding.

All donations go towards providing women with scholarships that help fund their doula experience. I want to thank you for taking the time to consider this contribution towards the life of a woman, child, and father; the essence of a community.

My warmest Thank You.
